202 / Producers Series #19 / Francois Kevorkian

Approached with some caution, not simply for Francois` presence on the net and his reputation for not suffering fools gladly, but also for the sheer weight of the body of work. I pulled everything I had with Francois` name on it off the shelves one Friday night and ended up with fifty 12s on the floor. I thought someone else would be far better qualified to cover the Disco, the House, the later productions, so I would focus on the Pop, the Balearic. Again someone else might be better qualified, but at least this would help narrow down the selection. I aimed to get my choices on to just one CD, but that proved impossible. Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk aren`t here, only because they didn`t make the cut that Friday night. Bringing Dub to Disco, taking Fusion into the 21st Century, adding a hard Electro edge to Pop, and any combination there of. Pop to Disco, Disco to Pop, Electro to Dub, and Dub to Electro. Sharon Redd`s “Beat The Street” was ground-breaking, Wuf Ticket`s “The Key” a tour de force. D-Train`s cover of “Walk On By”, Rod and the Thompson Twins never fail to make me smile.
