Bernie Worrell. An integral component of the “Parliafunkadelicment Thang”, writing, performing and recording with all of its (per)mutations: Funkadelic, Parliament, The Brides Of Funkenstein, Parlet, Boosty`s Rubber Band, The Horny Horns, on solos by Eddie Hazel, and when the band had enough of Clinton, Ruth Copeland. A de facto member of Talking Heads, he worked with David Byrne and Jerry Harrison when they went it alone. Bill Laswell`s keys of choice, he jammed with Bambaataa, DST, The Last Poets, Fela Kuti, Toure Kunda, Material, Nona Hendryx, John Lydon, Jah Wobble, Pharaoh Sanders, and Sly & Robbie. He lent his genius to old rockers like Keith Richards, Ginger Baker, and Jack Bruce, and to young boppers like Deee-Lite and Mos Def.
Bernie Worrell, the musician who made the clavinet funky and brought the Moog to Funk, and in the process created a language which he gifted to a least a hundred artists from Gov`t Mule to Lee “Scratch” Perry, who to him were just one nation under a groove. So high you can`t get over it, so low you can`t get under it. With “Flashlight” he changed popular music forever.
