A few years ago, I was lucky enough to interview Dennis Young from Liquid Liquid for Bandcamp Daily. Afterwards, we stayed in touch via email. Every now and then, Dennis will send me a missive about new (or old) projects of his. Last week, he dropped me a line to let me know he'd set up a YouTube channel. Once I clicked over and had a look around, I quickly realised he'd uploaded some gold there in the form of a few rare videos of Liquid Liquid live performances from the early 1980s. Anyway, let's check them out.

This is a video from the first time Liquid Liquid played 'Cavern' at the Cavern Club in New York in 1982. As many of you will know, "Cavern" was later covered (without permission or attribution) by the Sugar Hill Records house band as the backing music for Melle Mel's old-school rap classic 'White Lines (Don't Don’t Do It)'. I remember Dennis telling me that after 'White Lines' came out, Liquid Liquid was booked to perform at The Roxy, The Paradise Garage, and open for Chaka Khan. Interesting times.

Up next, here's a video of Liquid Liquid performing 'Rubbermino' with Shannon Dawson on trumpet and Al Diaz on Bellaphones at the Peppermint Lounge in New York in 1981.

Finally, here's a video of Liquid Liquid performing live at the Pyramid Club in New York in 1985. They're playing 'Dig We Must', the title track from their final recording for 99 Records.

Please enjoy these videos. You can check out more videos and video podcasts from Dennis Young and his friends over here.
