Becker Stegmann Zeumer
Music From Memory

Words by Dr Rob
Test Pressing, Dr Rob, Review, Karl-Heinz Stegmann, Heinz Becker, Isabel Zeumer, Else Lasker-Schüler, Music From Memory, Red Light Records

Four tracks here, on Music From Memory`s last release of 2016. The pieces are lifted from a limited, 1987 LP, which documents a live collaboration between composer Karl-Heinz Stegmann, trumpeter Heinz Becker, and actress Isabel Zeumer. A recording which celebrates the work of bohemian, Expressionist poet, Else Lasker-Schüler. MFM have picked, 50:50, between the record`s chunky electronic Funk / Post-“Rockit” Fusion (“Mein Tanzlied” boasts an Italo-esque B-line) and it`s more Ambient spaces. Each centres on the pairing of Becker`s Mark Isham-like songs to the ghosts of memory and forlorn hope, and Zeumer`s reciting of Lasker-Schüler`s quiet dreams of love. Poetry and all that Jazz.

P.S. If you`d like to hear BSZ`s “Abends” put to good use, then check Raphael Top Secret`s recent mix.
