What is your first musical memory?

My dad was and still is totally obsessed with loud music so the house was never silent. I have a really early memory of singing along to the chorus of “True Faith” by New Order.

What inspired you to start DJing / making music?

I had absolutely no plans to become a DJ as a youngster. The thought didn't even enter my head. My first love was guitar music and it was only through DJs like Andrew Weatherall, Erol Alkan, and Richard Fearless that I was introduced to an amazing world of Techno and electronic sounds. It was at this time that I discovered a little club night in Bournemouth called Project Mayhem that would play The Pixies and ESG next to the early Electroclash records that, to my ears, sounded like they came from another planet. One day I saw an advert for a warm up DJ at the club and I thought "I would love to do that." I had no idea what I was doing but I went for it and got the job. I always loved sharing music whether that was through mixtapes or just excitedly taking records round to friends' houses and saying "you have to hear this." The second I put a record on in a club, it felt right as it was just an extension of those ideas but in a more public space. Even now, whilst the crowds are much bigger, I feel exactly the same way about it all.

How long have you been DJing / making music?

That was ten years ago, when I was eighteen. The production side of things came naturally over time but I would say I've only properly been into that for four years in total.

How would you describe your sound?

The hardest question of all. It's Techno music that's as inspired by Psychedelic music as it is by club sounds.

What are your favourite places to play / hang out in?

Playing at Fabric is still always an amazing experience. Other than that, I've recently had some special experiences at Lux in Lisbon, Trouw in Amsterdam, Le Sucre in Lyon and iBoat in Bordeaux.

Do you see yourself as part of any scene?

I think something is forming at the moment but I still feel like an outsider. As a DJ I'm currently able to play records from a lot of different genres and it works. That's not me trying to be eclectic, a dirty word, but, instead, a sign that something interesting is happening right now in electronic music. The kids at the clubs don't seem particularly bothered about where music comes from.

Who are you currently working with?

I'm currently producing some tracks by a new psyche / drone band from L.A. I can't say anything else about it at the moment but I'm really excited with how it's all sounding.

Who would you most like to work with?

Visually, it would be pretty awesome to make something for / with Chris Cunningham.

What is your favourite book?

Difficult to say. “Maybe South Of The Border, West Of The Sun” by Murakami.

What is your favourite film?

Quite possibly “Lost In Translation”. There's a certain patience and atmosphere to it, complimented perfectly by Kevin Shields' soundtrack, that is hard to describe.

What is your favourite piece of music? If that`s too difficult, what`s your current favourite piece of music?

It changes but, right now, I can't think of anything from any genre I like more than OAR 003-B by Oni Ayhun. It's too perfect.
