Dj Harvey In Dolby Atmos
I`ve no real idea of what Dolby Atmos is, but Ministry Of Sound are installing it for Harvey`s shindig on Saturday April 23rd. Even a search and Wiki only confirmed that it`s a “surround sound technology” which in a cinema setting involves 128 audio tracks, 64 speakers and allows for spatial “metadata”
i.e. you can make a pin drop in the far left hand corner of the room.
I`ve got to admit that this sounds bloody interesting. Couple it to the fact that an evening with Harvey never disappoints, and that he`s returning to the site of a legendary long standing residency armed with “stems” sourced from his favourite recent tracks (so he`s either gonna be customising versions for the night, or doing so on the fly “in Dolby Atmos”). Even if you don`t believe in Harvey, and I know there are still a few heathens out there, in the second room you`ve got Terry Farley and Maurice Fulton, a high priest and a visionary of the “faith” of House, respectively, and in the “Chill Out” loft you`ve got our mate LX and Mixmaster Morris, undeniably the preachers / missionaries key in converting the children of that Second Summer Of Love to the doctrine of Ambient, re-inventing and popularising the genre in the process.
The “event” would appear to be huge, and to be honest I was surprised that the first I`d heard of it was a “heads up” email I received on Saturday. You can purchase tickets here.
