We`ve been big fans of Golden Teacher right from the beginning (we`ve tried many times to try to pin them down to a mix, playlist or interview). Mr Bovell is one of those producers, originals, innovators, like Mr Sherwood, whose work we buy on sight. Upon its release in 2013, we had Golden Teacher`s “Like A Hawk” pegged as an Acid House take on African Headcharge`s “Stebeni`s Theme”, now Bovell homes in on the militant stepping drum machine, loses the 303 and donates a funky (fairground) organ. Ups the percussion, ups the drama and then starts dropping Steinways down a well. For the Dub of “Instigator” old Blackbeard uses the same palette but with half the tempo, treble the bass.
