Jonny Rock is pretty comfortably one of our favourite DJs here at Test Pressing, not to mention a purveyor of the finest hugs and meatballs on this planet. Whilst he still seems to be <somewhat> of a best kept secret, his forays into vinyl have been increasing and here we have two original works that surely will further release the cat from the bag.
It's fitting that longtime buddy Lovefingers is releasing these two missives from the Rock mind on his ESP Institute label. The two have shared a lengthy bromance and seem very sympatico to one another's modus operandi. So what do we have here?
The A side, entitled 'Tye Die Techno' pretty much manages to self-identify. Tough robust music for the floor but with a freewheeling, trippy sensibility. Relentless but playful to boot, even handling a cavernous bass line breakdown with a deft lightness of touch.
Jonny truly let's his freak flag fly on 'Ode to a Happening on Planet Earth' wild jagged samples drift in and out of the thick smoky vibes. One time for the mind for sure.
'Ode to a Happening on Planet Earth' is released on December 5th on ESP Institute
