Six Percussive Missives

Test Pressing, Dr Rob, Pete Buckenham, On The Corner, Collocutor, Black Classical

Issued on Christmas Eve, six percussive missives from Black Classical signed off On The Corner`s 2016. Clearing the way for 2017, and the release of Collocutor`s “The Search”. Shakers and gongs, clapping and call-and-response chants, mark the two opening tracks, “Mina Nagi” & “Orixas”. “Je Je” adds organ grind. The combination rattling along like a Soul Jazz dancer from Dingwalls` “Talkin' Loud, Sayin' Something” heyday, on “Voduns”. “Mawu Batucada” is a piano-led street band “Celebration Suite”. Whistles and all. “Batuque De Nacao” mixes Bossa Nova guitar chimes with a cuica`s hoots and squeaks. All pay tribute to the Yoruba-Speaking peoples transported from their homes to the South Americas.

Digital-only for now, you can purchase Black Classical “Candomblé” over at On The Corner`s Bandcamp. You can also check a super mellow Afro mix from label head Pete Buckenham over a Tom Ravenscroft's 6Music page.
