On Friday 13 September, Melbourne-based reissue label Efficient Space will release the third vinyl pressing of Waak Waak Djungi’s Waak Waak ga Min Min compilation, a collection of singular works from three Yolngu songmen from Northeast Arnhem Land - Bobby Bunnungurr, Jimmy Djamunba and Peter Milaynga (d. 2007) and Victorian electronic musician Peter Mumme. This edition includes an expanded insert, aiming to better explain the complex Yolngu relationship system through new text and photographs, in the process illuminating further aspects of the positive cross-cultural sharing at the heart of the project.

Efficient Space has also just uploaded a 20-minute YouTube documentary of Waak Waak Djungi’s 1998 Japanese tour. Hosted on their month-long visit by the Ainu (the traditional people of Hokkaido), the documentary depicts the Yolngu songmen and their collaborators wandering the streets of Tokyo, exchanging customs with their Japanese counterparts, and performing ceremonial song and dance.

The latest vinyl edition of Waak Waak ga Min Min is available for pre-order now (here).
