Femdelic is a Berlin DJ known for her love of boogie, disco and over the years far more. Marisa aka Femdelic, grew up in Berlin and started DJing in 2005 but fully dedicated herself to music after stepping away from dancing. A DJ that loves to dance is a good sign of someone that totally gets it. A former breakdancer with a background in popping and b-boy culture, movement was her first language—until music took over completely. We asked her for some thoughts on her background and her musical style. Here's what she told us...

"It's interesting—when I started dancing, I began within a certain style, a certain category. But over time, the more I practiced, the more I felt everything tightening around me. The labels and expectations started to limit my ability to fully express myself.

So I broke free and began calling what I was doing experimental. Because that's exactly what it became: an ongoing process of experimentation. Exploring different kinds of music. Looping and repeating tiny movements. Following whatever a particular sound would awaken in my body. Letting unfamiliar, often hard-to-classify music guide me into movements I hadn't discovered before.

When I started DJing, I immersed myself deeply in '80s funk. For over a decade, I dug almost exclusively for music that lived within that world. I fell in love with everything about that era—the groove, the warmth, the production, the feeling.

But eventually, I arrived at the same point in my creative journey that I had reached as a dancer. I realised I had to break free from the labels I had placed on myself – labels that once gave me direction had slowly begun to limit my growth.

Here I am now: Femdelic.

Still deeply rooted in funk and boogie, yet continuously evolving into something more unpredictable. A space where genres dissolve, curiosity leads the way, and every set becomes an invitation to explore. A reflection of my boundless, unconditional, and holistic love for sonic experiences that move not only bodies, but spirits."
