As the temperatures ramp up (again) the need for the right soundtrack to take the edge off the rising mercury becomes ever more pressing. Luckily, Earthly Measures are back with ‘Island in the Currents’ from Stockport’s own Cervo. As per with the label, no stone is left unturned in the worldwide search for influences.

‘Pescaia II’ is as pure a slice of White Isle influenced sundown music as you’ll find this side of the Mersey. Meanwhile, ‘Body to Move’ gets a little more intentionally hectic, with its wobbly drums and keys nodding to modern UK dance sounds but with an outernational feel. ‘Sunken Kingdom’ lays on the marimbas and synths for a more four-four approach which adds a rhythmic contrast to the more abstract sounds of ‘Windsweep’ and ‘Muyonyo Echoes’. ‘Idris Gawr’ goes deeper into house territory, but still adding something a little different to the mix. Extract yourself and tip your toes in the water.

Out in August, available to pre-order now via Bandcamp.
