Previously, Sam Don's Sweet Free Association imprint has blessed us with forgotten classics from past times. Notably, the wild indie disco of Carl Moore and spiritual afro stylings from Vincent Arthur. Now, it turns its attention to contemporary, but no less vital, dance music, coming from a new artist named Convertible. Whilst the 'Like the Rain EP' is box fresh, it still takes its cues from the classic lineage of club music. These tracks are built to last, eschew fads and ensure longevity on discerning dancefloors - three pieces of deep, powerful, emotive house music.
'Like the Rain' glides on smooth, jazzy pads and warm, heavy toms before an earth-shaking bassline makes its presence felt. By the time the spacey, epic synth comes in, it's game over. We're in the sweet spot between Ron Trent's organic house jams and Detroit's hi-tech jazz. 'Silent Shadows' is my favourite of these three stellar offerings. Once again, it's that perfect balance of the smooth and the heavy, steadily and subtly building. This one is a real dancer's dream. The EP closes out with 'Hydrocity', which starts in a more funky, skitterish mood with garagey chords before those cosmic strings sweep in and take us all to heaven.
These jams come extensively road-tested by Sam himself, as he says, "Teased over the last 6 months in clubs and on radio, the music is consistently the highlight of my set, with the reaction from both the floor and the amount of messages I have received about these being staggering. But try it for yourself, and you will find out!"
Don't sleep!
Convertible's Like the Rain EP is available solely at Sweet Free Associations Bandcamp til mid / late May.

There is a launch party being held on Saturday 12 of April at Cafe 1001, with Sam Don, Convertible, Saige Sounds and Bevan. This one coincides with Record Store Day and is sure to be something of a roadblock.
