What a great way to see out a very nice year of releases indeed from Isle of Jura, low slung disco sunshine refracted through a dub filter for maximum heat from D.D. Mirage.
Now with this one, they’re two releases deep on Isle of Jura. Previous drop ‘Night Time’ went for a more laid back soul sound, with Rhythm Section alumnus Private Joy providing some beautifully sweet vocals. Now with a tempo led evolution they’ve drafted in two Italians - bassist Daniel Monaco and Andrea De Fazio on drums. Both have previous with some properly funky releases on Rush Hour and Periodica.
Their input is definitely evident, ‘Feel It’ teams a warm bass throb with a killer guitar line and an implored chant to, well, feel it. There are nods to disco but without it being a retro homage, this is sophisticated production and full of depth. Plus, there’s a nice little instrumental which tweaks up the lasers for added groove and extends the track into lower end territory.
‘So Hot’ down shifts slightly with a more mid-paced bpm skank. There’s filtered vocals, synth sweeps, tight drum patterns and slinky bass in amongst the groove. The Jura Soundsystem dub inserts some space and time to the original, with the mix steadily applying layers of sound as it marches forward.
Serious fun from IoJ for year end.
