In which legendary jazz drummer Steve Reid's hard Afrocentric jazz classic 'Lion's of Judah' is respectfully mutated into a militant stepper by The Maghreban & Idris Rahman. One needs absolutely no further impetus to grip such a compelling piece of music, but all proceeds from this go toward Help Musicians (UK) & Jazz Foundation Of America (NYC). So you can give your ears a damn treat while doing a little bit to help out musicians suffering during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Lions Of Judah by The Maghreban & Idris Rahman

The Maghreban adds enough of his mind-bending electronic spin to a heavy steppers chassis to remind us we are firmly in the 2020s before the Idris Rahman's haunting, virtuoso sax takes us back to the deep roots of the original work. While a lot of jazz covers can be overly-reverent, this is a perfect fusion, paying tribute to a forward-looking song, artist, and genre with an urgent and timely reworking.

Tough music for tough times doing good things for good people. Get on it.

'Lions of Judah' is available now via the Steve Reid Foundations Bandcamp page
