SILLYBOY'S GHOST RELATIVES / IN A SMALL PLACE / CLAREMONT 56

You can rest assured that Paul ‘Mudd’ Murphy’s Claremont 56 imprint always comes with the goods. Dubwise disco balearic vibes easing out of the speakers, and so it is with this release from Sillyboy’s Ghost Relatives (name!). According to the press release they are “Greek radio’s favourite soft rock band” but their vibe is pure West Coast AOR.

Mudd himself has teased the relative brevity of the original mix out to 6 odd minutes of head-nodding, guitar shredding, deeply stoned sunset / sunrise vibes. The vocal drops in the 3rd minute taking it to the next level – the claustrophobia of the lyrics a stark contrast to the wide open vista of the backing track. Paul gets little wild and freaky with the tape echo as the tune glides to a deeply satisfying conclusion.

Always classy and on point, it’s great to see Claremont kicking of the year in fine fashion AND staying true to their refreshingly simple mission statement of just ‘releasing beautiful music’.

‘In a Small Space’ is out on 1st March on Claremont 56
