Here are a few mixes and radio shows that have been keeping me entertained and informed over the last couple of months.
DJ Sotofett Presents
DJ Sotofett’s monthly show on Balamii has been nothing short of a revelation. Its unique mix of macro level structure (each show focuses on one of this productions) and micro level anarchy (the conversation and music can head off on any number of fascinating and well informed tangents) makes it an unmissable listen. I could have chosen any one of the six shows he’s done so far as they're all equally brilliant but I’ve opted for March’s edition as it has a bit more of a dub focus.
Roots Unit ‘Dub Wise’ Mix
Lovely selection of deep and dubwise goodness from across the electronic music spectrum by Chris Galloway for Going Good Records. One of those mixes best enjoyed in solitude at high volume when it can send you into a pleasingly trance like state. Found it a great musical accompaniment to my renewed attempts to get back into running.
Disciples ‘Time Is A Moment In Space’ Mix
The regular mixes from the Disciples label are always well worth a listen and this latest edition in the series is a particular treat. It kicks off with loads of great Jamaican sounds from the golden era of reggae and dub before heading into more experimental post-punk dubwise interpretations from these shores to finish.
Joe Vincent - 5 Decades Of Dub
I’ve been really enjoying this series of shows put together by Joe Vincent that document the evolution of dub from 1970’s to the present day. Each 2 hour instalment covers a decade in the genre’s evolution and the level of detail and dedication that’s gone into each one is massively impressive. A highly enjoyable and informative listen.
