Kenneth Bager
Uk Gigs

Words by Dr Rob

Club King of Denmark (DJing since 1979) and White Isle veteran (he`s been there pretty much every year since `82), Kenneth Bager, is in the UK this week. He has two gigs, both with Ruf Dug, and both with our friends in the North. The first is today (Thursday, 27th) at Manchester`s Soup Kitchen, for their “Thumbs Up” night, then the duo rattle over to Leeds and The Outlaws Yacht Club on Friday (28th).

Kenneth`s label, Music For Dreams, also has two 12s out at the moment. The first features a dub from Kenneth & fellow Ibiza survivor Pippi, harmonica ambience from Troels Hammer, and “Factor 30” by Danish DJ / producer, Bjarno, part of the Djuma Soundsystem, which blends accordion drones, shadowy eastern harmonics and a zither melody. A track I know caught Leo Mas` ear when he DJed with Kenneth in Denmark a couple of months back.

The second is sub-titled “Balearic House”, the pick of which for me is Al Jawala`s “Go East”. Utilizing that old “crowd noise” chestnut and honking horns, which explode into a cheesy but effective ethno-Jazz fanfare. Imagine if C-Cat Trance were to team up with The Mixmaster to remake “Equitoreal”.

Also, keep an eye out for a really nice forthcoming E.P. from Bonnie & Klein who seemed to come out of nowhere and then disappear again after their record on Uber earlier this year.
