With a killer line up South London’s Sunfall day-long festival looked like a fun one from the off. We attended with two thirds of Belfast’s ace Music Club who were on fine form all weekend. The line up was a strong one with Floating Points doing his live come DJ set, Roy Ayers, Theo Parrish, Ben Ufo and many more…

With security needing to be massively reinforced due to the council the queues to get in were pretty long to say the least. We managed to avoid this by getting there super early to get lost in some Theo Parrish which set the tone for the day. He ran from fine disco, through to killer Afro sound and then put a lot of smiles on faces by playing Outkast’s ’SpottieOttieDopalicious’ which sounded perfect. At the same time the Beautiful Swimmers were playing in another tent so a quick visit their heard them drop that Harvey remix on Auto amongst other killer house grooves.

From there the day just seemed to pass in a gentle haze of quality sound. The queues for drink, food and pretty much everything were pretty long, there’s no avoiding it, but seeing loads of friendly faces and people we knew alongside the great programming made the day roll perfectly.

Roy Ayers hit the noodle-omoter to the max and vibed out, Motor City played some really tidy music (great seeing a field full of 25 years olds getting down to some blissed out boogie) and Floating Points came on soon afterwards. We’ve got a lot of love for Sam Shepherd. His forward thinking productions seem to unite anyone with half a recording studio or more in their house, his DJing keeps the heads and the dancefloor happy and his live show with Floating Points is a perfect mesh of modular synth and live instrumentation. Sunfall saw him doing his semi-live DJing set which basically means tons of heavy modular business over house grooves and was the highlight of the day for me. It’s pretty hard to make modular synths sound dancefloor and groovy sometimes but he really makes it work.

As Sunfall fell Mr Fingers came on with his live set alongside Mr White. With such a ridiculous back catalogue to pull from its great to see him getting the slots as a headliner as lets be honest he deserves them. Playing a mix of back catalogue favourites and new tracks he was the one that brought everyone together and sent them out with a smile. ‘Closer Than Close’ sounding so nice on that massive system. Quality.
