Public Possession's DJ City returns with two new 12"/digital EPs, "Important Message" and "City of Sex", a self-styled five-song collection designed to soundtrack love & life in a modern metropolis.

On "Important Message", the A-side, "A&F" mixes luxurious synths with uptempo grooves and spoken word vocals, file somewhere between house and new wave. The B-side, "Important Message" continues the euphoria, with equally uptempo programmed rhythms pulsing against sleek pads, futuristic digi-melodies, and yet more narcotic spoken word.

Over on "City of Sex", the A-side, "Regrettable Sex" begins with a complex dancefloor groove detailed by arpeggiated space chords, before completely lifting off when DJ City's languid vocal incantations arrive, while adding new colours to the formulas we heard on the "Important Message" 12". On the B-side, "City of Sex" and "Eating Myself", DJ City cycles through similar rhythmic, melodic and lyrical themes, building the songs out into a larger, broader-picture perspective on the hedonism of late night dance parties and early morning comedown sessions in the big city, back in the days before the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic. Isn't it weird how shifts in the moods and realities of the times can change how music sounds?

"Important Message" and "City of Sex" are out now through Public Possession (order here).
