Fasaan from Malmo are pretty selective in their releases. Only really putting out music from their inner circle and over the years this focused approach has led to a very nicely curated catalogue. The latest addition to the Fasaan canon comes from label co-owner Golden Ivy with the seriously atmospheric ‘Din Dans’. It’s a double header with the original cut backed with a remix from another label associate, Berlin’s Philipp Otterbach.
It’s music that is tricky to pigeonhole and all the better for it. Clanking industrial inflected beats and clangs power the track with warped effects surging and ebbing in and out of the rhythm. There’s a folk element at play too courtesy of the central sample the track is built round. While it wears its spiritualism lightly, make no mistake this is a heavy heavy track that is steeped in mysticism. The alternate take positively groans under its foreboding string elements, paring back the beats into something altogether more primal. There’s dub space to migrate into with controlled chaos at the core. Like everything Fasaan does, it’s an arresting listen that pays back in spades on repeated listens.
