Johnny Sais Quoi, a man mysteriously devoid of identity and clearly marked history, steps through the Music From Memory stargate for his debut EP, "Love On Ice". A sonic document of a defining moment of change within our mystery man's life, the 7-track record deals with themes of leaving, arriving, coming together, and breaking up, as set against an opulent, dancefloor-ready backdrop of Italo-pop and New Wave slanted synthesisers, guitars, drum machines and other such textures. This is ornate, sophisti-pop for the dancefloor and glossy, countercultural machine music that deserves to live and breathe in a bigger playing field.
Opening with the glossy dreamscapes of 'No Guilty Pleasures' (he's right by the way), "Love On Ice" dials up the intensity on the languid technopop number 'Mistaken Man' and the equally bouncy title track, before taking a synthy slumper twist on 'Move off'. From there, Quoi slides back into full retrofuturist electro/synth-pop mode on "Life Sweet', gets dreamy on 'Ref23' and gives his aesthetic a jangly twist on 'Let's Find A Home'. Something for the club, something for the afterparty, something for sunset, something for a comedown post-noon.
Love On Ice is due for release through Music From Memory on Sept 18 2025 (pre-order here)
