Edinburgh’s toRR records have cut a unique path of releases of late, putting out music of low slung beat driven depth that’s touched with a rare warmth and soul. This latest one is no different and a welcome addition to the Torr catalogue.

Across nine tracks Parabola (aka label boss George Dalkin) plays with form and shape, mixing together restrained urgency and attack on tracks like ‘Top Bunk’ and then switching mood to the dubby folk leanings of more mellow takes such as ‘Paths’, tinged as it is with beautiful piano and harp shapes.

There’s a kind of choral feel to ‘Gloam’, again pulling in some excellent keyboard work and added orchestral flourish to expand the emotional reach. ‘Milo’s Dream’ has an ethereal effectiveness that its name suggests, before the swirling experimentation of ‘Fervent Being’, like a musical REM sleep countered by ‘Altered States’ fever dream.

Parabola has created a deeply personal collection of electronic head music, touched throughout with emotion to move the heart. Beautiful stuff from a label doing good things.
