Paraflow (aka Niall Rogers) comes this month with a mini album seven tracker of some very very heavyweight dubbed out beat music that's right on for the coming darkness of autumn. He's mined a fertile seam, with some aptly named tracks of superior depth and pressure. 'Substorm' kind of warps about with some controlled wildness, very solid drums and atmospheric electro bleeps make up the difference to form a satisfying whole. 'Continental Crust' throbs propulsively, and drops in some subterranean spoken word oddness in between arpeggiated drops. The FIO remix of the same track pulls out the dancier elements for something a little more floor friendly, but still shading to the shadows in a good way.
'Ashtray Black' is a little more euphorically angular. Tilting up the high end frequencies and adding in some top side flutter before maintaining course with some choppy bass attack. 'Mantel Drilling' slows things right down, option for pitching up available if required, but at is designated speed, it makes for a immersive and rapturous experience. There's more speed and motion with 'Core-Dweller', veering ever so slightly towards housier territory, without losing the central thread that binds these tracks together. Last up, the title track positively booms, almost crushing what has come before with drums and guitar, and as close as it gets to peaking. For a solo debut, Paraflow has put the bar high with something incredibly deep.
